Heart & Home Easter Card for a Color Dare Challenge

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I get into a creative “funk”. I have had a silly stamped door sitting on my desk for weeks, crying to be added to a project, and, today, as I started at the Inspiration Board for the Color My Heart Dare Challenge, I was determined to use it for a spring inspired card. 48411071_10213102276813559_2157067987780108288_n (1).jpgThree weeks it sat. Almost a month ago, I pulled out the Heart & Home stamp set and made this adorable little door. I used Watercolor Pencils to add shading, created a fun little Wreath, and I even added a heat embossed banner using an image from Bunny Trail.

And that, my friends was as far as I went.  I sat there, in a creative hallow, talking to myself and the dog, searching my collection of idea books, but nothing came… so it sat..and sat..and sat staring at me. After a few weeks of moving this little door from place to place, I decided it was time to do something. Then it struck me. Why not make a brick background to look like a house?! And this is what happened.

Oh, my! If my choices are mustard muck or spattered mess, I might as well call it quits. Now, I could have just conceded to the creative rut and given up on the door, but NO, this girl was born with red hair…there WILL BE A BRICK BACKGROUND and I WILL USE THIS BLASTED DOOR. So here we are…MissCarriesCreations-Heart&HomeEasterCardCD.jpgAfter multiple messes of texture paste and paint, a few tears, long talks with the dog, and lots of coffee and chocolate…we have a finished card. Hopefully, I will continue to climb out of the trench of creativelessness (is that a word?)… or… maybe I will be having more cups of coffee, long conversations with the fur baby under my desk, and buying up all the Cadbury eggs. 🤣

I hope that you are not in a creative “funk” and will join us for this week’s Spring Color My Heart Dare Challenge. It’s always fun to see how people are inspired by the design team and the colors they are given.

I can’t wait to see what you create!

    1. Thank you, Cat. I have been surprised how much the browns and greys change with Texture Paste where other colors just become muted. I love the splattered brick look, too, but I didn’t feel it fit the image. I might use it for something else. 🤔

  1. I really love how you ended up with bricks over the top of the black and white flower paper. Its subtle but really beautiful. Thanks for sharing your creativelessness story to inspire us to never give up!
