Masculine Color Dare Card

Have you ever had one of those days where no matter how much you try to get something to work, it refuses to cooperate and becomes the bane of your existence?! Well, that is exactly how I felt when I was trying to create a card for this week’s Color My Heart Dare Challenge.

This week’s theme is a Twisted Tic-Tac-Toe and normally, I would have tossed out the card, cried a little, maybe curled in a ball in the corner, ate a little chocolate, then returned to the drawing board. In all honesty though, I really wanted you to see that sometimes the cards I create don’t exactly turn out how I envisioned them.

After much angst over this design, I am still in a debate with myself over which is the better card. I do like the look of the Nutmeg Argyle pattern on the Pacifica background, and the overall structure of the card isn’t horrible, but I am still torn as to which card has a better overall look.

I would love to hear what you think.  We have until September 20th to enter our creations into this week’s challenge and HOPEFULLY by then I will have decided which one I prefer.  I would love to see your creations entered into this week’s challenge and can’t wait to see what you create!

Creating a Stencil in Design Space

This month, Close to My Heart is celebrating National Stamping Month with breathtaking Memories in the Making products. You can use these Cut-Above Kits to create an adorable scrapbook album or use in conjunction with our My Creations Calendar to create a delightful gift anyone would cherish. Of course, I couldn’t just create a simple calendar, I had to play with our NEW Texture Paste products and add a little pizzazz to this kit.

I just adore playing with Texture Paste, but it does involve creating a few Stencils in Design Space™. Today, I am going to show you how I created one of the stencils for this kit in Cricut Design Space™.  (FYI: Those who purchase this kit from me, and take the online Memories in the Making with Texture Paste class, will be receiving the Memories in the Making Stencil Design Space File™ FREE from me this month.)

Begin by INSERTING your image into the Canvas. Today, I am going to create the Snowflake stencil, so we will insert the Snowflake – #M27F834A from the You Are Here Collection.

I have decided that I want to Snowflake to be 3″ high, so I type 3″ in the HEIGHT box. I am also going to insert a 4″ Square into my Canvas.  This will be a base for my stencil and will need to be a little larger than the Snowflake so that I have room to hold the stencil in place.

SnowflakeSquareSize-misscarriescreations

Bring the Snowflake to the front using Arrange-Move to Front, then SELECT ALL and ALIGN CENTER.  The Snowflake will be perfectly centered onto the Square.

AlignCenterSnowflake-misscarriescreations

Select all and choose SLICE. Delete all the unneeded Snowflake images. If you look at the “Stencil” you will see that you still have those little diamonds in the center. These are useless for the Stencil and will need to be removed.

SliceSnowflake-misscarriescreations

Select your Stencil and choose CONTOUR. Select each of the little diamonds and as they turn grey, they will disappear from your stencil.

Click the X at the top, and you now have your Stencil. When you MAKE IT, you will have to choose “Custom” on your Machine, then choose “Plastic Stencil” in the Custom Materials.  I chose “More Pressure” for mine, but you may not need to.

Now that you know how to create a Stencil in Design Space™, you are ready to play with Texture Paste.  I will be showing how to use Texture Paste on our Memories in the Making Kits in my Online Class on September 25th. You will need to be a member of my VIP group* to join and you will need to have ordered this kit from my website before September 25th to participate. I hope you can join my online class and I can’t wait to see what you create!

Color Dare Create Card

Hello, my friends! As you know, I truly enjoy the weekly challenges from the Color My Heart Dare blog and this week we were challenged to a Tic-Tac-Toe where we were to choose three colors in a row/diagonal from this color palette.

I chose to use Peacock, Eggplant, and Saffron for my card since this choice of colors felt like it would go together really well and had a nice warm autumn feel. At first, designing the card was quite the challenge.  I knew my color palette and I knew that I wanted to use the Dreams stamp set, but I was baffled at how to put it all together.  I am not sure if I was suffering from lack of sleep or too little coffee, which is why I am so grateful that Close to My Heart has created some amazing idea books that we can look through and be inspired by.

I so surprised how cute this card turned out!  I love all the textures from the Decorative Borders Thin Cuts and how that white argyle stamp just pops on the Eggplant cardstock. I even added a little Gold Shimmer behind the sentiment just for a little ✨bling✨.

I would love for you to join in this week’s Color My Heart dare challenge.  You don’t even have to have a blog to join, just simply upload your photo onto their Facebook page and they will add you to the challenge.  They are fun to join and really help push your creative brain to new challenges. I can’t wait to see what you create!

You’ve Got Class Blog Hop

Welcome to the You’ve Got Class Blog Hop where we will be featuring products from the You’ve Got Class 39521996_10217478329729317_3142872847475539968_n.jpgcollection which features unique papers, exclusive stamp set, and workshop kit all designed preserve the best of your child’s school years.  If you have come here from Katy Taylor’s blog, you are on the right path! When you are finished reading my post, you can click on the link at the end to move to the next blog.  If you get lost along the way, you’ll find the complete list of participating consultants on Melinda’s Blog.

As I put together the You’ve Got Class school album kit, I realized that there was a possibility that I “might” have a few more photos than the album allowed room for.  As a mother of many, I have found myself incredibly behind with my memory keeping, so pocket scrapbooking has become an accepted way to catch-up. That is why I decided to create some matching You’ve Got Class Pocket Cards that can be used in conjunction with the You’ve Got Class kit.

Once I complete the album, I had PLENTY of paper and cardstock leftover making it easy to create some additions to my album. These You’ve Got Class Pocket Cards are designed to work in conjunction with our pocket Memory Protectors.

I began by cutting some of the papers and cardstock remnants into 3″x 4″ and 4″ x 6″ sizes. I knew I wouldn’t need many since most of my “pockets” would be filled with photos.  Once I had a pile of “bases”, my creative brain took off using the paper scraps along with the You’ve Got Class and School Kits stamp sets to create some adorable additions to my album.

Aren’t they just the cutest? I plan on showing my School Album Workshop attendees how to create these at my next class.  Our You’ve Got Class workshop contains enough materials that you can use to create 14 single page scrapbook layouts with enough left over for more pages or pocket cards.

You can continue through the blog hop and see more ideas from a few other Close To My Heart Consultants sharing their creations using the You’ve Got Class collection and other great Close to My Heart products on their blogs.

Bring Back My Pack Blog Hop

Welcome to the Bring Pack My Pack Blog Hop where we will be featuring products from the More Magical  collection.  MoreMagicalKit_misscarriescreationsDuring the month of August, we’ve brought back the popular Magical Paper Pack and coordinating products, which are suited for visits to amusement parks, parties, and other adventures. If you have come here from Lauren Moore’s blog, you are on the right path! When you are finished reading my post, you can click on the link at the end to move to the next blog.  If you get lost along the way, you’ll find the complete list of participating consultants on Melinda’s Blog.

I just adoremini albums. They are a delight to create, are huge time savers, and perfect for showcasing “themed” photos.  Years ago when Magical first arrived, I created a simple mini-album to showcase my “theme park” photos and, this year, when Magical returned, I was delightfully challenged to create another.  Instead of making one that could fit inside a book, I made this 4″ x 12″ album from the supplies found inside the More Magical Workshop Kit. Each page uses a variety of paper, stamped images, and a few extras.

Isn’t it just the cutest? I take great pleasure in how it turned out and I especially love the fact that it holds over 36, yes, thirty-six photos.

I plan on showcasing all of the pages in a short video on my various social media pages and in my private Facebook group I created for my VIP customers and team members this week.

You can continue through the blog hop and see more ideas from a few other Close To My Heart Consultants sharing their creations using the More Magical collection and other great Close to My Heart products on their blogs.

Going.. Going.. Gone

It feels like our Annual Expressions and Seasonal Expression catalogs just recently arrived full of fresh, new, desired products. Yet, as the seasons change, so will our products and we will make way for the new Holiday Expressions.  I must admit, there are a few  products from these catalogs that I will miss.  Thank goodness you still have a few more weeks to go before they are gone for good.  Here were a few of my favorites this year.

WELL LOVED COLORS
Several of our colors will be retiring at the end of August.  These are all colors I have enjoyed using and plan on continuing to create with.  If you plan to do the same, make sure you snag the cardstock, ink pads, and re-inkers before they are gone.

38533795_2009682819062863_5630940877993017344_n

WELL LOVED PAPERS
Our paper is such an amazing product to create with. Each year, there are new patterns with a variety of possibilities.  For me, our Enchantment Fundamentals and Fresh Air paper packs were some of my favorites.

WELL LOVED STAMP SETS
Sadly, we have to see all of our current stamp sets go and, unfortunately, my most “loved” set, “We Are Makers” will be among them.  I have used this stamp set for so many projects and will be holding onto it for more in the future.

WELL LOVED KITCHEN TRADITIONS COOKBOOK

If you haven’t taken the time to check it out, you need to make sure you take a look at the Kitchen Traditions Cookbook kits. I created one of these books for our son and new daughter that is full of family recipes with room for other’s they collect along the way.

WELL LOVED PUNNY PALS
The Punny Pals set was one of the most adorable stamps created to benefit Operation Smile.  When you purchase this stamp set, we will donate $7 USD of the proceeds to Operation Smile™, a non-profit organization that provides surgeries to repair cleft lips and palates for children around the world.

You still have a few more weeks to get a hold of these well loved products and others that will be retiring August 31st. You can visit the GOING SOON section of my website to view all the products that will no longer be available in a few weeks or, better yet, check out the CLEARANCE section for even more well loved products that you can purchase at a discount. I can’t wait to see what you create!

Here’s To You Blog Hop

Welcome to the Here’s To You Blog Hop where we will be featuring various products from the Here’s to You collection.  37748551_10155804471867686_1511386334193778688_nThe products in this collection are designed to help you celebrate the everyday moments in your life.  If you have come here from Alyson Mayo’s blog, you are on the right path! When you are finished reading my post, you can click on the link at the end to move to the next blog. This blog hop is designed to allow you to start here and work your way around. It’s simple, fun, and full of ideas using the the Here’s To You products. If you get lost along the way, you’ll find the complete list of participating consultants on Melinda’s Blog.

As a member of the “live in the middle of nowhere” club, I often do not get my packages in a timely fashion. Even though I had ordered my “Here’s To You” Workshop kit weeks ago for this blog hop, it has still not arrived. Since I choose to “celebrate joy in all things”, I decided to create a layout using components I had on hand that come in the workshop kit to create this layout.

HereToYouHop_JoyLayout_misscarriescreations
The Here’s to You Workshop kit comes with four Stamp sets, a variety of Cardstock, Silver Glitter paper, White Pearls, and the Rose Embossing Folder.  As I searched for ideas for this blog hop, I read one of the quotes hanging in my craft room – “Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can.” So that is what I did.  I didn’t have the stamps, but I used what I had to create this layout. It is perfect for celebrating any joyous occasion in your life.

Here are a few techniques I used on this layout:

Once my Here’s to You kit arrives, I plan on replacing the 3″x 4″ photo with the “I wish you all the joy” stamped image from the kit. Many of the products I used on this layout will be retiring at the end of August, so make sure you snag them along with the Here’s to You workshop kit before they are gone.

You can continue through the blog hop and see more ideas from fifteen other Close To My Heart Consultants sharing their creations using the Here’s to You collection and other great Close to My Heart products on their blogs.
