Craft Room Labels

Cricut Design Space™ has an amazing feature called “Print Then Cut” which it is wonderful to use when making labels.  As I move into my new crafty space, my OCD brain is finding the need to make sure everything has a label. I am also one who wanted all of this stuff moved and organized yesterday, so my labels need to be quick, easy, and of course, cute. Today, I am going to give you a quick tutorial on how to use the Print Then Cut feature in Design Space™ to create some labels.

CricutLabels

DESIGN SPACE INSTRUCTIONS: (Before you begin, Calibrate your Cricut® machine.)
1. Insert the label image you wish to use for your background. I chose Floral Label – #M4165FC from our Artistry Collection.
2. Design and Resize the Label as desired.
3. INSERT TEXT and type your description into the text box. Choose the FONT & RESIZE as needed onto the label.

4. If desired, insert any images you wish to use to decorate your label. I used a Dandelion Image from our Flower Market Collection. (The black lines around the image will disappear when turned into a print image.)
CraftLabel_AddImage
5. SELECT ALL and choose FLATTEN. If you look at the layers panel, your images have turned into a Print Image.
CraftLabel_Flatten
6. Choose MAKE IT. You will see a preview of the image with a rectangle outline added (cut sensor marking). Click CONTINUE.
CraftLabel_CutSensorMarking
7. Choose CONTINUE and choose SEND TO PRINTER.  Choose your Printer then choose Print. (The image bleed is a small border around each image that allows for more precise cutting. It is recommended to leave this on for best cut results, but you can turn the bleed off. The bleed may make the printed image look fuzzy or distorted, but this border will be trimmed off in the cutting process.)

CraftLabel_SendtoPrinter
8. After printing, place the paper onto the upper left corner of your mat making sure there are no wrinkles in the paper, then send through your Cricut® machine.

It’s this just AWESOME! I love that I could quickly make all the labels I needed for my embellishments and save the file for later use. (Make sure to save one image that is not Flattened to edit later.) If you have not used the Print Then Cut feature, I hope that you give it a try today. While you are at it, Shop and Save at this week’s Cricut Sale! Machines, Materials, Tools & More.  I can’t wait to see what you create!

Easter Candy Jar

As my children grow older, we have less baskets to fill and eggs to dye.  It can be a sad reminder of how fast time passes, but that doesn’t mean my children don’t still enjoy receiving gifts of some sort.  This year, I did not have a lot of time to create so you can imagine my excitement when Close to My Heart offered these amazing downloads on their blog.  I was able to upload these images into Cricut® Design Space and create a Print-Then-Cut image to make these adorable tags for my  jars. How cute is this?!

EasterCandyJar.jpg

Once I uploaded the image, I used my Slice tool to cut out the tag shape and added additional images from our Artistry collection.  This is what my image looked like on my Design Space Canvas before printing and cutting.

EasterTagDS

These little Easter Candy Jars were so fast and simple to make using Cricut® Design Space and the Close to My Heart Spring images. If you would like to start making some of my Cricut® creations, right now is the perfect time to purchase a machine.  Cricut has some incredible deals on Cricut Explore™ machine bundles starting as low as $149.99! As you follow my weekly tutorials, you will find that I use many images from of our Cricut Collections. You can use the “Search” box to find each of the collections and how I used them in my projects.

I would love to see some of your Easter creations.  Feel free to share them on my Facebook page. I can’t wait to see what you create!

Spring Banner (Workshop)

I truly enjoy joining weekly challenges, and I love decorating my home for each season. This month, Heart2Heart Challenge is offering a Seasonal Expressions One Cover Challenge to inspire and encourage us to use the cover of the Seasonal Expressions One catalog to create something for Spring. What inspired me most was all of the amazing home decorations that the CTMH Creative Team created, and, since I love to decorate my home, I was inspired to create this adorable Spring Banner to hang on my wall.

SpringBanner.jpg

My Spring Banner uses designer pattern papers from our Gimme Some Sugar collection, as well as images from our Flower Market collection.  Once I created this Spring Banner, I realized how fun this project would be to create in my monthly workshop.  I haven’t hosted a home decor workshop in a while, so I will be offering this bright, cheerful banner as a workshop in April to all of my customers. You can visit the Spring Banner Workshop page here on my blog to learn more about this workshop.  I also have kits and workshop guides available for sale in my online Holiday Store.

I would love for you to join me in the Heart2Heart Challenge and be inspired by the cover of the Seasonal Expressions One catalog to create something for Spring.  There are so many amazing products in this catalog and I can’t wait to see what you create!

Tuesday Tutorial

I am one of those people who decorates their home for every holiday and I especially love St. Patrick’s Day.  This week, I am showing you how to create a Snowdrop flower that you can use to make this Irish Woman Shadow box decoration.

IrishPoem

Even though our Flower Market cartridge has a Snowdrop flower, it is not a three-dimensional one and I truly wanted one that would work for this shadow box.  I decided to search online and find a way to recreate one and have decided to share it with you for this week’s Tuesday Tutorial.

Design Space Instructions:
1. To create the stamen, insert image Holly – #MFAE002, then use CONTOUR to remove everything but the “fringe” cut-out.  Resize to .75″h. (These will be cut from Canary Cardstock.)
Fringe
2. To create the inner petals, insert image Scalloped Border – #M418D1D, the resize to 1.5″w x .75″h. (You will need to unlock to resize.) Use CONTOUR to remove the scallop cutouts.
3. DUPLICATE the image and align the images so that the first “petal” overlaps the last “petal” of the previous border. WELD the  images together. (This will be cut from White Cardstock.)

4. To create the outer petals, insert image Rose – #MFAD8CB. DELETE all images except the two individual petals, then UNGROUP the remaining images.
5. DUPLICATE one of the petals so that you have three images. Resize each image to 1″w x 1.75″h. (This will be cut from White Cardstock.)
OutterPetal
6. To create the stem and leaves, insert image Tulip Flower – #MD6FE40. DELETE all images except for the stem. Resize to desired height and width.

Assembly Instructions:
1. Using a Quilling Tool, roll the “Stamen” and adhere the end. If desired, paint with a Gold Shimmer Brush.
StamenAssembly
2. Using a sponge, ink the bottom edge with Willow Ink.  Roll the “Inner Petals” around the “Stamen”, adhering the ends.  Use a Quilling Tool to turn down the tips.
InnerPetals

3. Using your finger, a Quilling Tool, or the rounded end of a Bone Folder, round the edges of the “Outer Petals”.  Adhere the base of each around the “Inner Petals”.
4. If desired, paint the petals with a Clear Shimmer Brush.
OuterPetalAssembly

This is what the piece looked like before I placed it into the shadowbox frame. I added a few more leafs and some clover, printed the poem on vellum and the project was complete.  (Of course, after posting this, I realized that I forgot an “s” in one of the words.  I will be post another picture once I correct it. I even read over it THREE TIMES.)

FinishedUnframed

I hope that you take the time to try to create a Snowdrop Flower for one of your projects.  Please feel free to post what you make using this tutorial on my Facebook page. I can’t wait to see what you create!!

Tuesday Tutorial

Many of my tutorials lately have involved using a Cricut® to create, which can seem unfair for some of you who don’t own the machine.  Since, not everyone has a Cricut® (gasp), I chose to create a tutorial today for you that doesn’t require the use of a machine. Yes, there will be some embellishments that you can use your Cricut® to create, as you will see, but you can also substitute stamped images, our complements, or another embellishment you might have in your stash.

I have made it a goal to start creating some of those items I have “pinned” to my boards.  This past week, I came across this adorable paper bird cage that I had saved a few years ago but, unfortunately, there were no assembly instructions to be found. Honestly, I was quite surprised how easy it was to assemble and I have decided to share the instructions with you. As always, the list of supplies used to create this project can be found at the very bottom of this post.

ButterflyCage

Paper Needed: (6) 12″ x ¼” Cardstock (White Daisy), (2) 12″ x 1″ Cardstock (White Daisy), (2) 12″ x 1″ B&T Paper (Chelsea Gardens), (2) 3¾” B&T Paper Circle (Chelsea Gardens), 3¾” Craft Board Circle

Assembly Instructions:
1. Adhere the 3¾” B&T paper circles to the front and back of the 3¾” Craft Board circle.
2. Adhere each of the 12″ x 1″ B&T paper strips onto each of the 12″ x 1″ cardstock strips.
3. Using a strong adhesive, adhere the base of one of the 12″ x 1″ strips to the outer edge of the circle, making sure the paper pattern faces inside.
ButterflyCage-BaseInserts
NOTE: At this time you can add the embellishments inside of the “Cage”.  I chose to cut butterflies from Heather & Silver Foil paper using images from our Cricut® collections.  I adhered them to heavy acetate and attached the acetate to the bottom of the “Cage Base”.

4. Using a strong adhesive, create a pinwheel with the 12″ x ¼” cardstock strips making sure the “spokes” are evenly spaced.  (I used a white wax pencil to draw lines onto my VersaMat to help me with this.)
ButterflyCage-Pinwheel
5. Adhere the ends of the “spokes” evenly spaced to the outside of the “Cage Base”.
ButterflyCage-SpokeAttach
6. Adhere the second 12″ x 1″ strip to the outside of the “Cage Base” making sure the paper pattern faces outward.
ButterflyCage-Outerstrip

I chose to create the Glacier Hibiscus flowers from our Cricut® collections along with the lettering and leaves. White Pearls were added as well as “shimmer” from our Clear Shimmer Brush.   This Beautiful Life Butterfly Cage was enjoyable to create and a pleasure to share with you.  As I said, you don’t “need” a Cricut® to re-create this project, but they are always a wonderful tool to own and use.  I can’t wait to see what you create!

Bright Sunny Thoughts Card

Throughout the month of February, I have been creating projects that you can make using our Sunny Thoughts stamp of the month.  This week, in spite of the freezing 1° weather outside, I have created these warm, cheery cards for some weekly challenges.  As always, a list of supplies used on this project can be found at the very bottom of this post.SunnyThoughtsCards

Paper Needed: 4¼” x 5½” White Daisy Card Base, 4″ x 4″ Canary Cardstock, 4″ x 4″ Cranberry Cardstock, Blue Shimmer Trim

For this week’s Color My Heart Color Dare challenge we are required to use Pacifica, Cranberry, Canary, and (optional) Gold.  BrightSunnyThoughtsCardThese colors reminded me of playful florals, so I choose to create a card that would reflect the “sunny” days ahead.  I created an overlay using our Artistry Cricut® collection, added some blue shimmer trim, and a “Sunny Thoughts” sentiment.  To add even more “shine”, I painted the Cranberry overlay with our Gold Shimmer Brush.  This card was also the perfect project to enter into the Heart2Heart Sunny Days challenge.  It is so bold and vibrant and much needed in the darkness of winter.

I hope that you choose to join me in one of these weekly challenges.  Don’t forget to order your Sunny Thoughts stamp set before February 28th.  Visit the Promotions tab my website to see how you can get this stamp set for only $5.00.  Come back each week for more ideas and tutorials.  I can’t wait to see what you create!

Tuesday Tutorial

There are times that I come across a title that I want to use for a scrapbook page, and I don’t have the exact cut anywhere in Cricut® Design Space.  I am sure that you have encountered the same dilemma.  This week, I am going to show you how to manipulate a few images from Close to My Heart and create this cute title for your Valentine pages.  As always, the list of supplies I used on this project can be found at the very bottom of this post.

ValentineTitle

Design Space Instructions:
1. Insert IMAGE Hugs and Kisses – #M416D03.  DELETE the background shape.
2. Insert TEXT “Valentine Wishes”, then choose desired font. (I used Artfully Sent).
3. With the Text selected, choose ADVANCED then UNGROUP TO LETTERS.  Arrange each letter so that it touches the letters next to it.
4. Click & Drag to select the text and choose WELD.
ValentineTitle_TextWeld
5. Resize and arrange both sets of text to get the look you desire.
ValentineTitle_BothText
I want to make sure that my title attaches exactly like the image I am making, so I am going to create a background image to glue my “Valentine Wishes” onto.
6. DUPLICATE “Valentine Wishes”. Move the duplicated text to the side.
7. Select the original “Hugs & Kisses” and “Valentine Wishes” then choose WELD.  When you assemble the title, you will know exactly where to place “Valentine Wishes”.
ValentineTitle_TextDuplicate
8. Insert TEXT “AND”, then choose desired font. (I used Cricut Stretch).
9. ROTATE 270°, then RESIZE to desired size.
If you want, you can repeat steps 6 & 7 to add the “and” to the background image.
ValentineTitle_TextAnd

10. Add a heart image, if desired, then cut and assemble.
ValentineTitle_Final

How cute is this title?!  I love how Design Space allows me to manipulate images I own and recreate new ones.  I challenge you to try to create your own title in Design Space this week (or at least try to create the one I made.) I can’t wait to see what you create!
