Tuesday Tutorial Paper Pansy

This is the time of year when my backyard starts to fill with color.  (If you follow me on Instagram, you will see a few postings of my “little” outdoor retreat.)  Pansies are one of my favorite flowers, and, being the crazy paper-crafter that I am,  I wanted to recreate them using my Cricut®.   This week, I figured out how to take a few images from our Flower Market collection and create some paper Pansies in a a variety of colors. I then placed them in an old pitcher, and now I have something to display all year long.

Pansies_InPitcher

Today, I am going to share with you how I was able to make these adorable little paper Pansies. A complete list of supplies I used can be found at the very bottom of this post.

Design Space™ Instructions:
1. Insert the Poppy – #MFADB88 image into your Canvas and UNGROUP the images.
2. DELETE the image with just the row of “Petals”.
3. DUPLICATE the image with the “Base & Petals” then use CONTOUR on one set of images to remove everything except the circular base.
4. Use CONTOUR on the second image to to remove everything except one of the “Petals”. (Make sure to keep the cut line in the one petal and remove the rest.)
Pansy_Petal&BaseContour
5. RESIZE the “Petal” to 1.5″ high and the “Base” to 1″ high.
6. DUPLICATE the “Petal” four times. (Five petals total) Change to desired colors.
&. Resize the “Stamen Center” to 1.25″ high and change to desired color.

Pansy_Petals&Base&Center
7. Insert the Dandelion – #MFAD571 image into your Canvas and DELETE all the “Dandelion Flower” images.
8. UNLOCK the image and RESIZE to 3″w x 3″h. (You can use CONTOUR to manipulate the individual images by following the same steps as you did in #2-#4.)

Pansy_Leaves
9. Insert a CIRCLE Shape and RESIZE to .25″. Change to desired color.
10. SELECT ALL and GROUP the images.  Now you can resize all of the images proportionally to the size you desire.  (Mine are approximately 3″ when complete.)
11.. SAVE your project and cut out the images from cardstock.

Assembly™ Instructions:
1. Use a Bone Folder to shape each “Petal” then glue onto the base.
2. Adhere the “Stamens” onto the Flower using Foam Dots for Dimension.
3. Adhere the Dot onto the center of the Flower, then adhere the Sepal and the Leaves onto the back of the Flower.

I used a sponge to add ink to the center and edges of my Pansies, then used a Clear Shimmer Brush to add some shine. There a quite a variety of Pansies out there, so take some time to search for images and find ones that match your personal style and decor.  I can’t wait to see what you create!

Tuesday Tutorial

Graduation Money Holder (Part Two)

Last week, I created the first part of the tutorial to show you how to make a Graduation Money Holder envelope in Cricut Design Space™.  This week, I will show you how to create the money insert in Design Space™ and I have included the list of supplies used at the very bottom of this post.

GraduationMoneyHolder

Design Space Instructions:
1. Insert a SQUARE SHAPE and resize to 3″w x 7″h.
2. Insert a SQUARE SHAPE and resize to 3″w x 4″h.
3. Insert a TRIANGLE SHAPE and resize to 4″w then ROTATE 30°. Position the Triangle over the top of the 3″ x 4″ rectangle.
4. Select the Triangle and the Small Rectangle and choose SLICE. DELETE the unwanted images.

5. Insert a Tag Image and resize to fit the top of the Money Holder Insert. (I used Luggage Tag – #M275FA92 from the You Are Here Collection.)

GradulationInsert_Tag
6. Add stars and a square to write a sentiment onto the “Pocket”.

GradulationInsert_Finished

Once the images are cut out, place adhesive ¹⁄ 8″ along the left side and the bottom to form a pocket. This will allow you to easily slide the gift in from the right side.  Adhere the remaining layers and stars, then add some matching ribbon to the tag to pull-out the insert, and you are ready to give this to the hard-working graduate.

GraduationMoneyHolder_Insert

This Graduation Money Holder can be made from any cardstock color or patterned paper. I can’t wait to see what you create with this tutorial!

Tuesday Tutorial

Graduation Money Holder (Part One)

This time of year, we receive quite a few graduation invitations and I am always trying to find a simple, yet, stylish way to congratulate the kids for all their hard work. If you are like me, you can’t just go purchase a card from the store, you need to make something fun and unique. This year, I found a pattern to create this money envelope which I replicated in Cricut Design Space™ so that I could make multiples without too much work. (All I have to do is change the cardstock color.) This week, I have created a Design Space™ tutorial for you and included the list of supplies used at the very bottom of this post.

GraduationMoneyHolder_Finished

Design Space Instructions:
1. Insert a SQUARE SHAPE, resize to 7.25″w x 7″h, then POSITION shape at x=0 and y=0.
2. Insert a SCORE LINE and resize it to 7″h. POSITION the Score Line at x=2 and y=0.
3. DUPLICATE the Score Line and POSITION it at x=5.25 and y=0. (DO NOT ATTACH)
4. Insert a SQUARE SHAPE and resize to 2.75″w x 7″h. DUPLICATE the Rectangle and resize to 2.25″w x 7″h. SELECT all three Rectangle shapes and choose ALIGN CENTER.

GradulationEnvelopeBase

5. Insert a CIRCLE SHAPE and resize to 2.5″w x 1.5″h. DUPLICATE the shape two times (three ovals) then place one Oval at the base of the rectangle, centering it to create the cut-out on the envelope.
6. Select the smallest rectangle and the oval then choose SLICE. DELETE the unwanted images. Repeat with the remaining Ovals and Rectangles. (Some images will “move to front” when you slice. Just “move to back” as needed.)

7. Select the Largest Rectangle and the two Score Lines and choose ATTACH.
8. Add Star Shapes if desired and change the colors to the desired colors.

GradulationEnvelopeBase-withstars

Once the images are cut out, you can use the Color Your Life stamp set to add the “Celebrate” sentiment. Place adhesive ¼” along the side of the Base Cardstock, fold in the sides and adhere them to form a pocket. Adhere the remaining layers and stars, using Thin 3D Foam Dots as needed for dimension.

GraduationMoneyHolder_Envelope

You have now created the basic envelope for the Graduation Money Holder. Next week, I will continue with project to show you how to create the money insert. While you wait, you can cut out and assemble all of the envelopes you need for your hard working graduates. I can’t wait to see what you create with this tutorial!
