My Weird Scrapbooking Life

In honor of National Scrapbooking Month, I have decided to try to post more scrapbook pages.  As I created this layout, I realized that I have some really weird scrapbook habits. So, in honor of a month dedicated to scrapbooking, I have decided to share my top ten habits of “weirdness” with you.  (Maybe you can ease my mind into believing that some of these habits aren’t so weird.)

SBWeirdnessLayout

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER ONE
I love scouring the internet for inspiration and challenges.  This week’s online search led me to two challenges.  I adore the Raspberry, Mink and Juniper combination for this week’s Color My Heart Dare, and I really wanted to challenge myself to use Vellum as instructed in the Heart2Heart Challenge(These challenges are so fun – this time I was blessed with the Diamond Award from Color My Heart Dare and the May Darling Award from Heart2Heart.)

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER TWO
I don’t glue everything down all at once.  In fact, I am known to have a huge pile of randomness that I have thrown onto the page, rearrange, THEN when I am finally satisfied – I snap a photo of it on my phone for reference. By taking a photo, I have something to refer to when my life calls me elsewhere or when my ever aging brain forgets where I placed that stamped rose.

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER THREE
I change my mind a lot.  Originally, I had placed the stamped vellum raspberry rose overlay on top of raspberry cardstock, but after looking at the fundamentals paper, I decided to go with white cardstock instead. Which leads me to weird habit four…

SBWeirdnessLayoutFlower

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER FOUR
I look at all the items I have chosen for additional inspiration.  The background paper has raspberry roses on white – I matched those with a heat embossed velum raspberry rose on top of white cardstock.  The Thin Cut Hearts have stitching which I matched by adding stitching to the page.

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER FIVE
I eat chocolate while scrapbooking and sometimes have to use a white pen to cover up the random chocolate stain on a layout.  My scrapbook desk holds two tins  – one with chocolate and one with dog treats. I don’t dare mix them up. 🙂

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER SIX
I save most of my scraps and Cricut® mistakes.  On this layout, the vellum roses were cut from scraps, the cardstock roses were cut from scraps, the leaves were stamped on scraps, and the title was a mistake made and used.  I even cut my little hearts from the raspberry roses I had intended on using.

SBWeirdnessLayoutTitle

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER SEVEN
I use a lot of foam tape. I need to by this stuff in 100 foot rolls.  I love the dimension that using both Thin 3D Foam Tape and 3D Foam Tape as well as our Foam Dots gives to a project.

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER EIGHT
I don’t post many layouts with photos.  In all honesty, I like to keep my family life private and protected.  Although, I do seem to have (and post) more pictures of my dog than my kids and her little attitude would prevent most people from taking her.

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER NINE
I like to use a variety of shapes, colors, and textures on my projects.  I have been learning quite a bit lately about color application and how to “match” tones and shades.  I love mixing lines with floral and scripts. I am careful to make sure that each has something to add to the layout and doesn’t take away from the photos.  I am also a big fan of texture.  It adds dimension and sophistication to a project, but a little can go a long way.

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER TEN
I make A TON of mistakes.  That white pen thing with the chocolate is just the tip of the iceberg. I have been known to leave a coffee ring on a project then cover it with a flower or clean a stamp and mist the ink all over the page – great opportunity to try my hand at splatter painting. I have been know to pull a piece of paper up only to tear it then just call it “added texture”.

So, maybe some of these aren’t so weird, but, to me and my little brain monsters, they seen awful strange some days.  I do hope that you take a little bit of time during National Scrapbooking Month to express your “weirdness” and breathe in the paper goodness of crafting.  Make sure to take the time to visit my website and see all that Close to My Heart is offering to celebrate a month dedicated to scrapbooking.  I can’t wait to see what you create!

Bloom & Grow Valentine Card

Throughout the month of January, I will be creating projects that you can make using our Bloom and Grow stamp of the month.  This week, I created a simple Valentine’s Day card in traditional black, red, and white tones.   You can find the list of supplies used on this project at the very bottom of this post.

Bloom&GrowValentineCardJPG.jpg

I chose to use the Heart patterned paper  from the Adventure Fundamentals Collection, but felt like it needed a little more “something” to fit my card design.  I took one of the “Vine” images stamped in black ink to add to the pattern.  I am please with the look.

Paper Needed: 4¼” x 5½” White Card Base, 4¼” x 5½” Black Cardstock, 4″ x 5¼” B&T Paper (Adventure Fundamentals), (3) 4″ x ½” Red Glitter Paper, 4¹⁄8″ x 3¹⁄8″ Black Cardstock, 4″ x 3″ White Daisy Cardstock, 3¾” x 2¾”  Cranberry Cardstock

Assembly Instructions:
1. Adhere the 4¼” x 5½” Black cardstock onto the front of the card base.
2. Using Black Ink, stamp the “Vine” image repeatedly onto the 4 x 5¼” B&T Paper. (I stamped between each heart image.)
3. Adhere the 4″ x 5¼” B&T Paper onto the center of the Black cardstock.
4. Adhere the three Red Glitter Paper strips horizontally onto the B&T paper, starting approximately 1″ from the top of the card. (You could also use Red Shimmer Trim.)
3. Using Black Ink, stamp the “Seed Packet” image onto the 3¾” x 2¾” Cranberry cardstock.
4. Using VersaMark Ink, stamp the “Let Love Grow” sentiment and “Heart” image onto the center of the “Seed Packet” image.  Sprinkle White Embossing Powder over the image, use a brush to remove the excess, then heat with a Craft Gun.
5. Adhere the Cranberry cardstock onto the center of the 4″ x 3″ White Daisy cardstock, then onto the center of the 4¹⁄8″ x 3¹⁄8″ Black cardstock.
6. Adhere the layered image onto the center of the card base using 3D Foam Tape.
7. If desired, stamp a sentiment onto the inside of the card.

Don’t forget to order your Bloom and Grow stamp set before January 31st!  Visit the Promotions tab my website to see how you can get this stamp set for only $5.00.  Visit my blog each week for more ideas and tutorials.  I can’t wait to see what you create!

A while back, I bought the Tagged with Love acrylic stamp set and I have been itching  to use it for the Color My Heart Dare challenge.  I was so excited to see that this set was one of the exclusive stamp sets chosen to bring back for our July Stampaganza. This card is simple to make and can be altered to fit any occasion just by choosing one of the other sentiments on the Tagged with Love stamp set.  I also love the fact that this card is a great way to use up some of your leftover paper scraps like I did here with the Prickly Pear papers.

QuickNEasyTagCard.jpg

Paper Needed: 5½” x 4¼” White Card Base, 5½” x 4¼” B&T Paper (Raspberry Adventure Fundamentals), 5″ x 3¾” Black Cardstock, 4¾” x 3½” White Daisy Cardstock, (3) 4″ x 1″ B&T Paper (Prickly Pear), 3″ x 2″ Black Cardstock, 3″ x 2″ White Daisy Cardstock.

Assembly Instructions:
1. Using the Confetti Embossing Folder, dry emboss the 4¾” x 3½” White Daisy cardstock.
2. Adhere the White Daisy cardstock onto the center of the 5″ x 3¾” Black cardstock, then onto the center of the 5½” x 4¼” B&T paper.
3. Cut a chevron into the shorter end of each of the 1″ B&T paper strips, then adhere onto the 4¾” x 3½” White Daisy cardstock.
4. Using the Art Philosophy cartridge, cut out the tag shapes from both the White Daisy and Black cardstock.
5. Using Black Ink, stamp the “Chevron Tag” onto the White Daisy tag.
6. Using Raspberry Ink, stamp the “Awesome” sentiment onto the center of the White Daisy tag.
7. Layer the White Daisy tag onto the Black cardstock tag, add a ribbon, then attach to the card with 3D Foam Tape.

Quick & Easy Floral Card

Sometimes you need a last minute card and it can be difficult to find a design that doesn’t take tons of time or try your patience.  The whimsical flowers in the Live, Laugh, Love Stamp of the Month are perfect for this kind of card making project. This week, I joined the Color My Heart Dare Challenge and found the bright colors to be a perfect addition to my quick & simple card.   As always, I’ve included a list of the products I have used to create this card at the very bottom of this post.

MaySOTMQuickCard.jpg

Paper Needed: 5½” x 4¼” White Card Base, 2¼” x 4¼” B&T Paper (Raspberry Adventure Fundamentals), 2” x 4¼” B&T Paper (Lagoon Adventure Fundamentals), 1¾” x 4¼” White Daisy Cardstock, 2″ x 2″ White Daisy Cardstock (for stamped images)

Assembly Instructions:
1. Using Blossom Ink, randomly stamp the “Flower” image onto the White Card Base.
2. Using Black Ink, stamp the sentiment onto the right side of the 1¾” x 4¼” White Daisy Cardstock. Wrap the Pink Twine around the bottom of the White Daisy cardstock and secure to the back.
3. Layer the 1¾” x 4¼” White Daisy Cardstock onto the center of the 2” x 4¼” B&T paper, then onto the center of the 2¼” x 4¼” B&T paper.  Place the layered paper onto the card as shown.
4. Using Black Ink, stamp the “Four Petal Flower” image onto the 2″ x 2″ White Daisy cardstock.  Create a mask of the flower, then stamp the “Leaf” images using Black Ink.
5. Using a Blending Pen, shade in the “Four Petal Flower” image with Raspberry ink.
6. Using a Blending Pen, shade in the “Leaf” images with Lagoon ink.
NOTE: A Blending Pen is the perfect tool to use if you want your images to match your papers.  Just add ink to the well of an ink pad, dip the end of the Blending Pen into the ink, then shade the images just like you are using a marker.
7. Cut out the stamped images and attach to the left of the sentiment using Thin 3D Foam Tape. Adhere a large Black Dot to the center of the “Four Petal Flower”.
8. If desired, add a sentiment to the inside of the card.

Pint Size Valentine Treat

This Valentine Treat container was created for the weekly  Color My Heart Dare challenge. These four-inch containers can be filled with a special gift to give for Valentine’s Day.  The added bonus: these containers are currently on Clearance along with over 100 other items on my website.  At the very bottom of this post, I’ve included a list of the products I’ve used to create this project.PintSizeValentineTreat.jpg

Paper Needed: 12″ x 5″ B&T Paper (I used Lagoon Adventure Fundamentals), 2½” x 4″ B&T Paper (I used Lagoon Adventure Fundamentals), 2¼” x 3½” B&T Paper (I used Raspberry Adventure Fundamentals), 1¾” x 3″ White Daisy Cardstock, 2″ White Daisy Cricut Rose, 12″ x ½” B&T Paper (I used Raspberry Adventure Fundamentals),
2″ x ½” B&T Paper (I used Raspberry Adventure Fundamentals)

Assembly Instructions:
1. Wrap the 12″ x 5″ B&T Paper around the cup, trimming as needed. (NOTE: I created a pattern for covering the outside of the cup.  Email me for a PDF of the pattern.)
2. Cut a chevron into one of the shorter ends of the 2½” x 4″ B&T Paper and the
2¼” x 3½”B&T Paper. Layer the two pieces and adhere together.
3. Cut a chevron onto the shorter end of the  1¾” x 3″ White Daisy cardstock . Using the second generation stamping technique, stamp the Heart image onto the right side of the cardstock with Lagoon Ink.
4. Using Black Ink, stamp the sentiment onto the Heart image.
5. Wrap a piece of Pink Twine twice around the 1¾” x 3″ White Daisy cardstock, just to the left of the stamped image. Tie a knot and trim the ends. (Note: The Piercing & Embossing tool helps to separate the strings on the twine for a frayed look.)
6. Attach the 1¾” x 3″ White Daisy cardstock to the layered B&T papers. Adhere the layered label to the front of the Pint Size Cup.
6. Using the Cricut, cut a 2″ Rose from the White Daisy cardstock. I used a Accent 2 on page 54 of the Artiste Cartridge.
7. With a sponge, apply ink the the edges of the Rose cutout. Using a Quilling tool, roll the rose and adhere the petals to the base. ( I used Liquid Glass.) Once the adhesive has dried, adhere the Rose to the upper left side of the label.
8. Wrap the 12″ x ½” B&T Paper around the rim of the lid.
It will not be long enough so you will need to fill the gap with the 2″ x ½” B&T Paper.
9. Fill the treat container with candy, granola, snack mix, toys, nail polish, etc. and give it as a gift to brighten someone’s day.

Adore You Layout

This week, I am using the January Stamp of the Month, Adore You, to create a simple scrapbook page. This is a layout you can make featuring your Valentine, your kids, or your fur babies. I’ll be sharing project ideas each week with this set, so be sure to visit often.  At the very bottom of this post, I’ve included a list of the products I’ve used to create this layout.jansotm_layoutonedetail

Paper Needed: 12″ x 12″ Kraft Cardstock, 5″ x 12″ B&T Paper (I used the Diagonal Pacifica paper from Adventure Fundamentals), 5″ x 10″ B&T Paper (I used a piece from Rustic Fundamentals), 5¼” x 7¼” Matching Cardstock for photo mat (I used Pacifica), 4″ x 7″ Cardstock for Thin-Cuts (I used Chocolate), 6″ x 6″ White Daisy Cardstock (for stamped images)

Assembly Instructions:
1. Adhere the 5″ x 12″ B&T Paper to the Kraft cardstock approximately one-inch from the top of the page.
2. Turn up the lower right corner of the 5″ x 10″ B&T Paper and staple in place with the Mini Stapler. Center the 5″ x 10″ B&T Paper below the 5″ x 12″ B&T Paper and adhere to the page.
3. Adhere a 13″ piece of Ribbon below the 5″ x 12″ B&T Paper. NOTE: I used our Bonding Memories Glue Pen to adhere the ribbon to the page, then wrapped the edges around  and taped them in place.
4. Adhere the 5¼” x 7¼” photo mat to the page approximately 2″ from the top.
5. Cut out the Thin-Cut “Love” and Large Heart from the 4″ x 7″ Cardstock.
6. Using Memento Ink, stamp the Floral Heart Image onto White Daisy Cardstock. Use the Watercolor Pencils to shade the image. (I used the watercolor pencils without water for the flowers and then brushed color onto the heart with a watercolor brush and Brown Bag watercolor pencil).
7. Once the Floral Heart image is dry, cut out the image and adhere to the right of the photo mat layering it over the Large Heart Thin-Cut. If desired, tie a piece of Blue Twine onto the Thin-Cut Heart.
8. Using Pacifica Ink, stamp the Small Heart image onto White Daisy Cardstock. Cut out both images and staple them onto the layout as shown.
9. Using the 1″ Hole Punch, cut out a circle from White Daisy Cardstock. Stamp the “XO” onto the center of the circle and layer the circle onto the upper left Heart.
10. Adhere the “love” title to the top left of the photo mat overlapping slightly.
11. Using Memento Ink, stamp the Sentiment below the photo mat. (If you can tell, mine is on a separate piece of B&T because I jumped when I was stamping.)
12. Finish the layout by adding Enamel & Glitter Blue Dots. jansotm_layoutone

The card shown here  is one I made using this set. You can simply change the sentiment and use it for a Valentine, wedding, or sympathy card.  At the very bottom of this post, I’ve included a list of the products I’ve used to create this card.jansotm_cardone

Paper Needed: 5½” x 4¼” White Daisy Card Base, 4″ x 4¼” Watercolor Paper,
3¾” x 4¼” B&T Paper (I used a piece of Adventure Fundamentals Paper), 5″ x ¾” piece of Silver Glitter Paper, 2¼” x 2¼” Cardstock to match the B&T (I used Eggplant),
3″ x 3″ Watercolor Paper

Assembly Instructions:
1. Splatter Yellow & Purple Watercolor Paint onto the 4″ x 4¼” Watercolor Paper. Once the paint is dry, stamp the “thank you” sentiment on the top left side using Black Memento Ink, then adhere the paper to the top of the card.
2. Cut the 3¾” x 4¼” B&T Paper at an angle so that the left side stays at 3¾” and the right side measures 1¾”. Adhere to the base of the card as shown.
3. Using a pair of scalloped scissors or a scalloped jansotm_cardonedetailpunch, scallop the Silver Glitter Paper strip. Adhere to the top edge of the B&T Paper, at an angle. Trim as needed.
4. Using the Heart Thin-Cuts, cut a heart outline image from the 2¼” x 2¼” cardstock and adhere to the card as shown.
5. Stamp the 3″ x 3″ Watercolor Paper with the Floral Image using Black Memento Ink. Using Watercolor Paints, add color to the Floral image. Once dry, cut out the image and place onto the card using Thin 3D Foam Tape over the bottom edge of the heart.
6. Finish the card by adding three Clear Sparkles to the centers of the flowers.
7. Add a sentiment to the inside of the card if desired.
