Seasonal Expressions 2 Blog Hop

Welcome to the Seasonal Expressions 2 Blog Hop,where we will be featuring products from our amazing Seasonal Expressions 2 catalog . 31919520_10155617744822686_2034753619907051520_n If you haven’t had a chance to view this catalog, you can do so online or receive one free when you place an online order in May.  If you have come here from Krista Hershberger’s blog, you are on the right path! When you are finished here, you can click on the link at the end to move to the next blog.  If you get lost along the way, you’ll find the complete list of participating consultants on Melinda’s Blog.

For this Blog Hop, I was able to do three things I love: Join a blog hop full of talented ladies, create some cards for my wonderful downline, and join in a Color My Heart Dare challenge.  I just love the Sapphire, Smoothie, and Heather combination in our Beautiful Friendship collection. I have been seeing this color combination everywhere lately.  How awesome is it that Close to My Heart is “in the know” when it comes to seasonal color combinations?!

SE2BlogHopCard.jpg

And those tea cups….oh, my gosh!  I have fallen in love with the Beautiful Friendship Cardmaking set.  I just love those little flowers that you can add to the Cup and Teapot, not to mention that adorable little Teabag.

Here are a few techniques I used on this card:

  • The Sapphire background was created using one of the PML cards from the Beautiful Friendship Paper Packet.  I always end of with a few of these leftover and they make great backgrounds for cards.
  • The “Create” sentiment is from another one of my favorite stamp sets – We Are Makers.  I just love all these crafty sentiments that can be used on cards, scrapbook pages, or in a frame with Cricut® flowers.
  • The “Steam” was stamped with Heather Ink using the second-generation stamping technique. This prevented it from competing with the sentiment, yet still gave another layer of depth to the card.
  • The “Teacup” was stamped in Black Ink, then I added the Flower design with Smoothie ink.  I wanted to add a little blue, but I was too lazy to color the flowers, so I added some dots with a ShinHan™ Twin Touch™ Marine Blue Marker.
  • Both the Teabag and the Teacup were cut-out using our matching Thin Cuts. You can purchase the Beautiful Friendship Cardmaking stamp set as a bundle with these Thin Cuts dies.
  • For another layer of texture, I stitched the “Banners” along the right side of the card using a Ruler and Piercing & Embossing Tool.

Just in case you wanted to re-create this card, I have included a complete list of the supplies I used at the very bottom of this post. You can continue through the blog hop and see more ideas from almost twenty other Close To My Heart Consultants sharing their creations using our products from the Seasonal Expressions 2 catalog on their blogs.

Now “Hop” on over to Alayne Fleming’s blog to see her work! Be sure to visit all the Consultants at their Blogs to get some great crafting tips and other fun ideas! If you would like a free Seasonal Expressions 2 catalog, contact your CTMH Consultant, or send me a message on my website. I can’t wait to see what you create!

Celebrate You Card

For this week’s Tuesday Tutorial, I assembled a bright, spring Tulip that you could create using our Cricut Flower Market Collection.  In the photo with the Tulip, was this fun, easy-to-make card that I produced using our exclusive Color Your Life stamp of the month.  You can easily replicate this card for any occasion, with the Re-Inkers of your choice, using the cutting guide and directions below as a guide.  I have also listed the supplies used at the very bottom of this post. CelebrateYouCard.jpg

Paper Needed: 4¼” x 5½” White Card Base, 4″ x 5¼” Gold Foil Paper, 3¾” x 5″ White Daisy Cardstock, Gold Foil Paper (“You”)

Assembly Instructions:
1. Fill your Spray Pen ¾-full with Isopropyl Alcohol or Water and add 5-7 drops of Re-Inker. (I chose to fill one using Sorbet and one using Tangerine.)
2. Place your White Daisy cardstock onto the All Purpose Mat (or a well prepared area – it will get messy) and carefully spray the cardstock using the mix in the Spray Pens.  The closer your are, the denser the coverage.
3. Allow the inks to dry completely.
4. Using VersaMark Ink, stamp the “Celebrate and be” sentiment, sprinkle with Gold Embossing Powder, and heat using a craft gun.
5. Adhere the White Daisy cardstock onto the center of the 4″ x 5¼” Gold Foil paper, then onto the center of the card base.
6. Using a Cuttlebug, or embossing machine of choice, cut out “You” from Gold Foil Paper using the “Thankful for You” Thin Cuts.  Adhere to the card.
7. Add Gold Glitter Gems and a sentiment inside the card if you like.

When playing with your Spray Pens, it’s always good to have some scraps of White cardstock nearby.  After spraying the petals on my Tulip, I had some left-over mix in my Spray Pens, so instead of wasting it,  I used it to create the background for this card.  You never know what you might possibly end up with.

Remember, the Color Your Life stamp set is only available through April 30th. You can order it on my website for $17.95 or for only $5.00 with a qualifying purchase.  I have created a few projects this month using this stamp set, and, I must say, it is one that I am beginning to warm up to. I can’t wait to see what you create with the April stamp of the month!

Many of you noticed that you received a wonderfully designed empty blog post yesterday.  It was with the best intentions that I had planned on posting this cute little card for this blog hop, yet, family life took some unexpected turns, I over-filled my plate,  and you all were able to see the results.  So, today, with Melinda’s permission, I am posting a project using our adorable Color Your Life stamp set .

ColorYourLifeBlogHopCard.jpg

The card was created using Gimme Some Sugar papers, Complements, and Cork Shapes. I am LOVING this collection! ❤ ❤  It reminds me of vintage farm decor and puts me in my happy place.  I will continue to post more ideas throughout the month using these papers as well as the Color Your Life stamp set, so make sure to visit often.

Tuesday Tutorial

I simply adore shaker cards. They are the cutest little creations and so simple to make.  Today, I am going to show you how to create the frame for this Easter Shaker Card using the Slice and Weld features in Cricut® Design Space.

EasterShakerCard

Design Space Instructions:
1. Begin by inserting a 5″ Square and 6″ Circle shapes then ALIGN CENTER and WELD.

2. Insert a 4″ Square shape then ALIGN CENTER and SLICE.

3. Insert Hoppy easter pop up card – #M1067BD into your Canvas and DELETE everything except the Bunny image.
4. Align the Bunny image against the inner left side of the frame. SELECT ALL and WELD the images.

6. Resize the image to the size needed for the front of your card.

I chose to embellish my card with images from our Flower Market collection, Gimme Some Sugar papers, and Make Waves Sequins.  I also chose to add some shimmer using our Bashful Shimmer Brush on the flower and bow.

EasterShakerCardDetail

I hope you take the time to try to create this shaker card frame in  Cricut® Design Space.  Many people avoid creating a shaker card because the can be difficult to mail. If you do not like the bulk of shaker cards, our Memory Protector Flip-Flaps are perfect for creating shaker cards without the bulk.  I can’t wait to see what you create!

If you have been considering upgrading your machine so that you can start creating all of my Tuesday Tutorials, then right now is the perfect time to do so.  Cricut has some incredible deals on Cricut Explore™ machine bundles starting as low as $149.99!

Watercolor Color Dare Card

For this week’s Color My Heart Dare challenge, we are required to use Eggplant, Pewter, and Goldrush.  You would think that these colors wouldn’t complement each other, yet, I found many examples in nature where these colors beautifully enhance one another.  For this challenge, I choose to create a simple card where the colors complement each other to create a project full of color and texture. You can find the list of supplies used on this card at the very bottom of this post.

ColorfulColorDareCard.jpg

On this card I wanted all of my colors to match, so I chose to create my own watercolor paint.  I simply mixed a few drops of Reinker with a ¼ tsp of water, then carefully shaded the images with a fine paintbrush.  Since I used a water-based ink to stamp the images, I had to extra cautious not to use too much “paint” on my images.  After painting the images, I splattered a little bit of the remaining Goldrush watercolor around the butterfly for added texture.

You can easily recreate this card for any occasion.  I would love to see you join in on this week’s Color My Heart Color Dare challenge.  You have until March 22nd to create and add your project to the challenge page.  I can’t wait to see what you create!

Tone-On-Tone Thankful Card

Monochromatic cards can be the most stunning cards, but they can also be difficult to create as you try to find a balance.  This week’s Color My Heart Dare challenge is “Pick your own Red” using Poppy, Ruby, Cranberry with optional Gold. As I attempted to mix various red tones along with some tone-on-tone stamping, I came across a wonderful tutorial that gave instructions for creating a background with stencils and clear embossing powder. The dusty wheels in my brain began to spin, and this card emerged using some of the same techniques with an embossing folder. You can find the complete list of supplies I used on this card at the very bottom of this post.

ToneOnToneThankfulCard.jpg

Paper Needed: 5½” x 4¼” White Card Base, 5³⁄8″ x 4¹⁄8″ Ruby Cardstock, 4″ x 1½” Ruby Cardstock, 4″ x 1½” White Daisy Cardstock, 6″ x 1″ Vellum

Assembly Instructions:
1. Prepare your 5³⁄8″ x 4¹⁄8″ Ruby cardstock using an anti-static bag. (You can find more information about this bag as well as a few tips for heat embossing on one of my earlier posts here. )
2. Open the Rose Embossing Folder and generously apply VersaMark™ Ink onto the top portion of the folder.
3. Carefully place the Ruby cardstock onto the bottom half of the folder.  You will need to make sure that 1½” of the cardstock will be sticking out from the bottom of the folder to prevent any ink from getting onto the top portion of the cardstock. (If desired you can use a temporary adhesive to keep the cardstock in place.)
4. Close the folder and be extremely careful not to move the cardstock. Apply pressure to the embossing folder to “stamp” the cardstock.  You can use a Brayer, a rolling pin, or place the folder onto a texture pad and run it through an embossing machine.  You DO NOT want to dry emboss the card.
5. Remove the cardstock from the Rose Embossing Folder and sprinkle with Clear Embossing Powder.  Tap of the excess, then heat with a Craft Heater until the powder is melted.
ToneOnToneThankfulCard_Detail
6. Cut out the “Thankful” Thin Cut sentiment from both the Ruby and White Daisy cardstock. Layer the two images and adhere to the top of the card.
7. Cut out the “Ribbon Border” Thin Cut from Vellum and attach to the card by wrapping the ends around the Ruby cardstock and adhering in place. (If desired, use a Gold Shimmer Brush on the Vellum Ribbon Border.)
8. Adhere the Ruby cardstock onto the card base, then add three White Dots, as shown.

The stunning tone-on-tone pattern created with Clear Embossing Powder adds texture and depth to this card.  I would love to see some of your monochromatic creations and have you join me  for this week’s Color My Heart Dare.

Don’t forget that the “Thankful” Thin Cuts used on this card along with many more of our Thin Cuts are on sale this month during our Die-Namite Sale.  I can’t wait to see what you create!
