Holiday Sparkle & Seasons of Joy Blog Hop

Welcome to the Holiday Sparkle & Season’s of Joy Blog Hop where we will be featuring products from both our Holiday Sparkle and Season of Joy collections. 43952017_10155987217317686_8454669368721145856_nYes! Both collections! You are going to be amazed by all the spectacular artwork this week.

If you have come here from Krista Hershberger’s blog, you are on the right path! When you are finished reading my post, you can click on the link at the end to move to the next blog.  If you get lost along the way, you’ll find the complete list of participating consultants on Melinda’s Blog.

I had such a hard time choosing which product to use this week. Partly because both are such incredible products, but mostly because my fall decorations have been sitting in a box in my living room for two weeks and I cannot even contemplate anything that involves Christmas. Yes, ladies, my life in a nutshell. (The squirrels are forever scattered and chased.)

So this week, I chose to avoid Christmas, continue to play with fall papers, and use the delightful Love with All the Trimming stamp set to create this cheerful “Lots of Love” card that I plan on sending out for an upcoming anniversary.

The background for this card is a PML in the Hello Pumpkin paper pack. I took advantage of those little stars and hearts that were already there and strategically placed my other items to cover “Happy Halloween”. The remaining embellishments came from the package of Hello Pumpkin Complements.

Remember how I said I wasn’t ready for Christmas? Well, using a stamp set full of Christmas-y sentiments was a bit of a challenge, but I realized that the “with Lots of Love” sentiment paired with those darling little hearts could be used for any occasion .

That sweet sentiment was placed onto a piece of our NEW Seasonal Mix-Ins and shaded with a Black Shimmer Brush.  I enjoy having this additional paper pack to use on my projects and it blends beautifully with all of our other seasonal papers.

I know that many of you may have expected a Christmas-y card or at least something that said “Happy Holidays”, but my brain cannot even think about tidings, or stockings, or figgy pudding for another month. I hope that you still enjoyed my little paper crafting creations, and continue through the blog hop to see more ideas from a few other Close To My Heart Consultants sharing their creations using products from our Holiday Sparkle and Season of Joy collections.

Now ‘Hop” on over to Lauren Moore’s blog to see her work! Be sure to visit all the Consultants at their blogs to get some great crafting tips and other fun ideas. Contact your CTMH Consultant, or visit the WHAT’S NEW section of my website to see all of the products available for the holiday season.  I can’t wait to see what you create!

Color Dare Scary Day Card

You would not believe how excited I was to see how many people participated in our last Color My Heart Dare challenge.  If you haven’t had a chance to visit, you must stop by and see all those amazing creations.  I hope you are you ready for another challenge, because this week we are playing with Nectarine, Lagoon, and Clover.

Our home is not one who goes “all-out” for Halloween, so I do not do much paper crafting that showcases the holiday, but our Hello Pumpkin products are ♥so stinkin’ cute♥, I couldn’t resist using them for this week’s challenge. Honestly, this card does not “scream” Halloween, so it’s perfect to give for just about any occasion.  If you wish to recreate this card, you can follow the short tutorial below and see the full list of products I used at the very bottom of this post.

Paper Needed: 4¼” x 5½” White Card Base, 2½” x 5½” Lagoon Cardstock, ½” x 5½” Clover Cardstock, 1¼” x 5½” “Witching Hour” PML, 3″ x 2³⁄ 8 Black B&T Paper, 2 7⁄ 8″ x 2¼” “Trick or Treat” PML, 2½” x 2″ “Scary Good” PML

Assembly Instructions:
1. Using a Black Shimmer Brush, splatter Black Shimmer onto the Lagoon Cardstock. Adhere to top of card base.
2. Using White Daisy Ink, stamp the Checked Border across the Clover Cardstock. After ink has set, adhere to card base.
3. After trimming “Witching Hour” PML, adhere to card base.
4. Adhere “Frame” from Hello Pumpkin Complements onto center of card.
5. Adhere “Scary Good” sentiment onto center of “Trick or Treat” PML, then onto Black B&T using Foam Tape for dimension.
6. Embellish card with various Hello Pumpkin Complements.

This card was so simple to make using the Hello Pumpkin PML sheet and matching Complements, and it turned super cute. I hope that you join in this week’s challenge.  Anyone who participates and posts their link in the comments below will receive a ♥handmade card♥ from me using the Hello Pumpkin products.

Remember, you don’t have to have a blog to participate.  Just post your creations using these colors to Facebook, Pinterest, SplitCoast Stampers, or Instagram, list the products used, post your link below, and I’ll send you a handmade card. 🙂 I can’t wait to see what you create!

An Exciting Color My Heart Dare Announcement

As many of you know, I enjoy participating in each week’s Color My Heart Dare challenge.  Today, I am excited to announce that I have decided to venture out of my comfort zone and join the Color My Heart Dare Design Team. As a Design Team Member, I get to provide inspiration for some of our Color Dare Challenges. My first challenge for you as a Design Team member is a Boutique Paper Pack Tic-Tac-Toe.

You would think that by now, I might be tired of playing with the Boutique paper pack, but, in all honesty, it has been one of my favorites to create with.  This week, I decided to design a card using primarily Peacock, Peach, and Glacier, with a few of the other colors from the board added in.

This card allowed me to use up a few of my scraps, leftover PML cards, and the Boutique Scrapbooking stamp set (which I ♥love♥). Though it is simple, I really enjoy how this card turned out and I can’t wait to send it off to a few of my friends.

Here are a some techniques I used to create this card:
• The sentiment came from the Boutique Scrapbooking stamp set and was stamped using Intense Black Ink onto one of the PML cards that was trimmed down to 3¼” x 3″. Don’t you just ADORE this sentiment.
• The Peacock Scallop Trim was created using our new Decorative Borders Thin Cuts dies (another favorite♥ of mine).
• The small plastic heart is not a Boutique product, but one of the new Hello Pumpkin Shapes. Isn’t it just the cutest? AND it has adhesive backing making it so easy to apply to any project you make.
• That little flower was cut from Peach cardstock using our Flower Market collection. Our new Peach color really works well with Peacock – a great color combination for fall.
Mink Twine was used to create a faux “Leaf” and Silver Glitter Gems were added for a little bling (we all need a little bling).

You don’t need a blog. You don’t need to use the CTMH colors (just something close). You get to share your love of paper crafting and could win some fun prizes.

Joining the Color My Heart Dare Challenge is so simple and I encourage you to join in this week.  If you don’t have a blog, you can simply add your photo onto the Color My Heart Dare Facebook page.  Please let me know if you decide to join this week, and I will send you a personal Thank You card just for joining. I can’t wait to see what you create for the Color My Heart Dare Challenge.

Maker’s Color Dare Card

Convention is over, I am “almost” unpacked, my craft-room is still not finished, and, yet, I am still able to create. I have been amazed by how little I need to make a card and how many things I have found as I have unpacked my collection like the Originals Idea Book from Close to My Heart.  I had this stashed on a shelf in another area of the house and completely forgot that I had it.  Before placing this book on the shelf in my new craft area,  I thumbed through and found a few cards that I wanted to make including one for the weekly Color My Heart Dare and Heart2Heart Challenges.

I used the design on page 35, exchanged the cardstock used for some of our Fresh Air papers, added a stamped image, and “Bob’s your uncle” – I had a completed card.

Paper Needed:  5½” x 4¼” White Card Base, 5½” x 1¾” B&T Paper (Fresh Air), 5½” x 2¾” B&T Paper (Fresh Air), 4¼” x 3″ Nutmeg Cardstock, 4″ x 2¾” B&T Paper (Fresh Air)

Assembly Instructions:
1. Using Washi, Scotch, or Post-It Tape on the back of the papers, temporary attach the 5½” x 1¾” Fresh Air paper onto the 5½” x 2¾” Fresh Air paper. (They will overlap, so make sure that the width is 4¼”.)
2. Using the Stitch Guide and Piercing & Embossing Tool, punch holes along where the two papers meet. I used the Zig-Zag stitch, but you can use any on the guide.
3. After adding stitching with a Glacier colored thread, adhere the paper onto the card base.
4. Using Nutmeg Ink, stamp the sentiment from the We Are Makers stamp set onto the 4″ x 2¾” Fresh Air paper. (FYI: This stamp is only available until August 31st.)
5. Adhere the stamped sentiment onto the center of the 4¼” x 3″ Nutmeg Cardstock using Thin 3D Foam Tape.
6. Using Charcoal Ink, stamp the “We Are Born” image onto a scrap of White Daisy cardstock. Cut out the image and adhere to the sentiment using 3D Foam Dots.
7. Cut two 1½” pieces of Glacier & Gold Ribbon, fold in half, and staple onto the Nutmeg cardstock, as shown, using a Mini Stapler.
8. Adhere the Nutmeg cardstock with the sentiment onto the card using 3D Foam Tape.
9. Add two Gold Glitter Gems, and stamp a sentiment inside the card.

I know that the card I made looks nothing like the one in the Originals Idea Book , but the books are designed to inspire and give you a launching pad to begin the creating process.  I hope that you join this week’s challenges. I always love seeing what other people create for these challenges.  I can’t wait to see what you create!

Thanks a Bushel Step-Card

Life is about trying new things, having experiments blow up in your face, and finding the blessing in everything. This week, I wanted to try my hand at a Front Panel Step-Card, and, since card making is one of my weaknesses, it just didn’t seem to go as planned.  Even though the end-result turned out beautifully, the path to discovery was not so glamorous.

As you do in each experiment, I researched the subject. After browsing Pinterest for hours, saving snippets of summer meals, scrapbook sketches, farmhouse decor, …oh, and a thousand ways to make a step-card, I finally settled on a pattern by Colleen Vaux. I thought “I can do this!” (I am sure Tesla and Einstein said the same thing when they formed their hypothesis.) Now the experimenting begins.

1. If you choose to change a horizontal step-card to a vertical step-card, take the time to research a new pattern. You aren’t Einstein and math hurts the ever-aging brain cells.
2. When altering one’s pattern, make sure it will fit into the envelope you intend to send it in. Measure twice, cut forty times. (Procedure not working – time to go back to original horizontal pattern.)
3. Do not cut off the side panels. You need those. (Gathering more materials.)
4. When all else fails, turn to your Cricut®. (Make sure you have a decent cutting mat to avoid another piece of cardstock being ruined.)
5. If you are going to go to all this trouble to create a card, you should take some time to enter the Three Amigos and  heARTful stamping challenge.

My experimenting led to a mess of excess, cut-up, cardstock that will go into my scrap pile. I did finally turn to my Cricut® to create this cut file that I can use in the future and avoid additional failed experiments. I proceeded to use products from our New Seasonal Expressions 2 , including the Fresh Air Paper Packet and A Bushel & a Peck stamp set, to decorated the card. All of the supplies I used can be found on my website.

I hope you take the time to try to create a step-card this week using the Free Cricut Design Space™ File I created for you. Now, time to continue on riding the bicycle of life, because in order to keep my balance I must keep moving. I can’t wait to see what you create!

Summer Time Crafting

Summer is just flying by and I seem to be adding more and more to my calendar.  As my son said, “My calendar is beginning to look like a Jackson Pollock painting”.  I am sure you understand exactly what I am talking about.  Unfortunately, for most of us, this means our crafting gets set aside for the summer causing the “miss my crafting blues” .  To prevent this, I have set up a few “Crafternoons” at the local library just for you.

On June 23rd and July 21st, you can come enjoy some time for yourself to catch-up on crafting, chat with other adults, and have a few hours where you are not saying “no you cannot have another snack”.  I will also be offering a few workshops those days which you are welcome to learn from, but the ultimate goal is for you to have a day of “craft happiness”.

Please make sure to RSVP for these events by sending me an email or leaving me a comment below.  Cost for each Crafternoon is $10.00 or FREE with a $30.00 order from my website. All proceeds from these events will benefit Operation Smile.

I hope to see you there!  Have an amazingly, blessed summer. I can’t wait to see what you create!

Father’s Day Card & Gift Box

Father’s Day is right around the corner, and, since I enjoy giving you crafty ideas for holidays, I decided to create this Pinterest inspired “Apple of My Eye” card and gift box using the A Bushel & a Peck stamp set.  This fun four-inch card not only has a sweet saying on the outside, but it includes the “I love you a bushel & a peck” sentiment inside.  How great would this be to give to a dad in your life?  You can fill the box with their favorite treat or add some baseball tickets or a few gift cards.

This “Apple of My Eye” card and gift box was not only designed with you in mind, but I also created it to enter this week’s Color My Heart Dare and heARTful Stamping challenges.  It’s been awhile since I have joined one of these challenges.  My craft-room has been in such a disarray that I haven’t been able to make much of anything, so being able to join these challenges makes my crafty heart happy.  If you would like to recreate this project you can find the list of supplies I used at the bottom of this post, along with the instructions for completing the project.

Paper Needed for Card: 8″ x 4″ White Daisy Cardstock, (2) 4″ x 4″ Nutmeg Cardstock, 2¾” x 2¾” White Daisy Cardstock, 1″ x 2¾” White Daisy Cardstock, White Daisy Cardstock Scraps

Card Assembly Instrucions:
1. To create the card base, fold the 8″ x 4″ White Daisy cardstock in half lengthwise and burnish the fold with a Bone Folder.
2. Adhere one of the 4″ x 4″ pieces of Nutmeg cardstock onto the front of the card base.
3. Using your paper trimmer, cut out a 3″ square from the center of the other 4″ x 4″ piece of Nutmeg cardstock. If desired, shade the edges of the “Frame” using a Sponge Dauber and Nutmeg Ink. Using Foam Tape, adhere the “Frame” onto the card.
4. Using Glacier Ink, stamp the “Buffalo Check” from the Documented Scrapbooking stamp set onto the 1″ x 2¾” White Daisy cardstock. Adhere this across the base of the 2¾” x 2¾” White Daisy cardstock. (You can choose to use B&T paper instead.)
5. Using Nutmeg Ink, stamp the “You’re the Apple of My Eye” sentiment onto the upper left corner of the 2¾” x 2¾” White Daisy cardstock. Using New England Ivy Ink, stamp the “Small Hearts” below the sentiment. (If you don’t own the Documented stamp set, the Leaf would look cute as an alternative to the hearts.)
6. Adhere the 2¾” x 2¾” White Daisy cardstock onto the center of the card.
7. Using Black Memento Ink, stamp the “Apple Basket” and “Apple” onto scraps of White Daisy cardstock.
8. Shade the “Apple Basket” and “Apples” using ShinHan™ Markers.  Cut out the images and add them to the card using Foam Tape.
9. Stamp a sentiment inside the card, if you desire.

The Apple of My Eye Treat Box was create using a box image that I uploaded into Cricut Design Space™ and it decorated in much the same way that I did the card. You can find instructions for uploading the box image in this Tuesday Tutorial. Don’t forget that the A Bushel & a Peck stamp set is only available through June 30th for $5.00 with a qualifying purchase.  I can’t wait to see what you create!
